August 14, 2022
Wordbook is a Progressive Web App (PWA).
A way to install PWAs for mobiles is not through app stores.
How to install on Android
- Open Wordbook on your browser.
- Open your browser’s settings.
- Scroll down and tap "Add to Home screen".
- Confirm by tapping "Add".
I use Chrome for the browser to install PWAs.
It could be different for how to install on other browsers.
How to install on iOS and iPadOS
- Open Wordbook on Safari.
- Tap the "Share" Button.
- Scroll down and tap "Add to Home Screen".
What are PWAs?
format_quote A progressive web app (PWA) is a website that looks and behaves as if it is a mobile app. PWAs are built to take advantage of native mobile device features, without requiring the end user to visit an app store, make a purchase and download software locally. Instead, a PWA can be located with a search engine query and accessed immediately through a browser. format_quote - from WhatIs.com
You can use PWAs as web applications on your browser without installations.
If you like Wordbook, I recommend you install it.
With installation, you can access the app directly from home screens.
Header toolbars on browsers will not be shown in the app, and that makes more viewing spaces.
Why PWAs?
The reasons why I choose PWA for Wordbook are:
- I want to use Wordbook on PC as well.
- Wordbook does not require high-performance devices.
- I have tested it on the moto g7 which was released in 2019, and the app works smoothly.
- I have tested it on the iPhone 5s which was released in 2013, and the app is slightly laggy.
- Easy maintenance.
